Managing Diversity |
|
The key to future success may well be through managing diversity effectively.
The population is ageing, and working patterns are changing, meaning that many organisations
will need to develop strategies to ensure that they are managing diversity to attract employees.
This may be through revising policies on age, flexible working patterns, considering gender and
retraining needs as people return to the workplace, and how recruitment is sourced
For sectors with a high concentration of graduates employed, then managing diversity may mean
considering ethnicity more closely, with 12% of current undergraduates being from ethnic communities,
and where the birth rate is up to 4 times that of the indigenous population.
Organisations that have effective human resource strategies will have the added advantage of
managing diversity with the involvement of a wide-ranging workforce. The benefits that accrue
from involving people can be clearly demonstrated by Diversity Dimension to deliver substantial
business generation opportunities. This is only part of what can be considered a virtuous circle
of benefits obtained from building a community relationship by managing diversity - employee
satisfaction and development, return on investment, stakeholder endorsement, employer of choice
status, positive media coverage - and the added potential of industry awards!
